Vinny Quirino and Denis Lemos were brought the United States as children. They attended our schools, graduated with honors and wanted to go to college to give back to their country, the United States. However, because they are not documented they could not afford the international tuition that they would have been charged to go to school. So they what we would hope any young person would do, they got organized and join the campaign for the Dream Act. The Dream Act is a simple piece of legislation, it calls for a path to citizenship for young people who were brought to the United States by their parents as children and who have played by all the rules so they can become productive citizens in our communities.
Protect the Dream
Unfortunately for Vinny and Denis their activism drew the eye of Immigration Custom and Enforcement (ICE) and now they are on the verge deportation. Should that be the penalty for speaking your mind, being kicked out of the only country you know? Our partners at the Student Immigrant Movement are calling on allies to call Bruce Chadbourne, the ICE Field Director for Boston, and ask him to grant prosecutorial discretion in Vinny and Denis’ case. Below is where to call and a script you can use.
Office Number: (781) 359-7500 and press 4#. Call between 8am and 4pm.
