    We accomplished....

  • The "Foreclosure Bill", An Act to Stabilize Neighborhoods passed unanimously by both legislative chambers. The bill: 1) Delays a foreclosure by an additional sixty days if the financial institution neglects to consider a loan modification, 2) Provides eviction protections to tenants in foreclosed properties who are in good standing and continue to pay rent, 3) Requires counseling in order for a low income senior to receive a reverse mortgage. The provision would take effect in August, 2012; 4) Creates a local option for municipalities to exclude nonprofits from property taxes during the term that the nonprofit rehabilitates a foreclosed home and 5) Criminalizes mortgage fraud.

  • MA Rental Voucher Program (MRVP) will be level funded in FY2011, and none of the current 5100 housing voucher recipients will lose their housing vouchers.

  • Governor Patrick signed the 'Expiring Use' bill on Nov. 30. Thousands of units of affordable housing that were at risk of being converted into market-rate housing may now be preserved for low-income residents. Thanks to the many UUs who called their Senators and Representatives in support of this bill.

  • UU Mass Action joined with other State Advocacy Networks to testify in favor of an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finding that greenhouse gases can be regulated under the Clean Air Act, because the gases pose a threat to public health and welfare. More details....
